Interview: Koralia Hume of Quarry Bank Boutique Bathrooms

We recently had the pleasure of visiting Quarry Bank Boutique Bathrooms to ask director Koralia Hume about her business and her experiences with TruBlue.
Quarry Bank Boutique Bathrooms is a beautiful concise showroom located in the beautifully affluent town of Wilmslow in Cheshire.
Kora and her husband Steven decided to evolve the business from plumbing and heating installations, to merge them with retail bathroom design and installations. It has proven to be a huge success for them, and the business continues to expand and receive plaudits from within the industry winning a prestigious KBB Review award for Installation Company of the Year in 2024 and making to the shortlist of nominations for Bathroom Retailer of the Year in 2025.
Q. Tell us about Quarry Bank Boutique Bathrooms.
Kora: Quarry Bank Boutique Bathrooms is a boutique showroom in heart of Cheshire. We specialise in bathroom designs and bathroom installation, all bespokely made for the desires of our customers. The idea behind Quarry Bank Boutique Bathrooms, came about four years ago.
We had a long established company that my husband ran Quarry Bank Plumbers, which specialised in installations. So we were getting a lot of inquiries from our customers for the bathroom installations, but we had to send them to purchase the suite to the local showrooms.And it was a little bit of a disappointing, experience because the feedback that we were getting is that the quality of service was not exactly there or the products were not the best of the quality.
My husband Steven, came up with this idea, why don't we open up our own showroom? So we did three years ago as this month actually we celebrate our third birthday. So we were now well established on the market, we have a great reputation, we've got fantastic recommendations and 5 star reviews on Google, and the business is thriving.
Q. What solution did you use previously, and how has TruBlue improved things for you?
Kora: So before we came on board with True Blue, we use a different tool for our quotations and sales management. And we found it to be quite complex and difficult, to navigate through.
It was very difficult to understand our dashboard and exactly what everything meant in terms of the numbers and needs that we convert. So when we heard about TruBlue it was a no brainer. I mean, we had the initial call with the team at True Blue where we were presented with how the actual system works.
It was just so refreshing to see that such a complex, process like selling bathrooms could be so simplified, in terms of the processes that you have on the screen.
So ever since and it's been over two years that we've been with TruBlue, we've never looked back. It's been an absolutely amazing experience.
The tool is super helpful. We use all the functions on it. It offers us a really easy to understand dashboard. It tracks all our sales leads, conversions, you name it. It's got reminders and a diary. So literally, the care of the business management that we actually need for a successful business.
Q. What has working with TruBlue been like for you?
Kora: My experience with True Blue is nothing but great, an absolutely fantastic company to work with.
Ever since coming on board or even prior to coming on board, we've been given so much support and everybody from the team ensured that we have a good understanding of how to use all the features.
We've been trained many times on how to use it to our advantage. Because it's a one thing to actually use a system, but then to take all the advantage of the possibility that it offers is another level.So it's been absolutely fantastic. It's absolutely crucial for our business.
We heavily rely on TruBlue for our leads and conversions and orders. I would highly recommend for any business owner for the peace of mind and have a clarity of what is coming through versus what you given out. It's really really, really good.
Q. How important is it to have customer support that is based in the UK?
Kora: I think it's very important that Trublue team is based in the UK, and the team specialises in the UK market. I mean, that's what we're dealing with. So it's, crucial and very important that you guys are aware of what's going on, so you act fast updating your system to make sure it's actually relevant to our market.
I find this, very important and dealing with people that are actually based in the UK and speak the language as well, and they understand what the business owners are going through and be able to act from that, and it's absolutely crucial.
Q. Has TruBlue exceeded your expectation during your time using the platform?
Kora: So I remember, a time in my business, about a year and a half ago, which was quite difficult because my manager at the time left suddenly and I found myself stepping into the sales role. Prior to that, I’d been in charge of marketing and business expansion and administration. But because obviously we had to step in and carry on with our leads, I found myself taking on that role and I've never done sales before, neither have I ever quoted for anything in my life.
So as you can imagine, it was a quite stressful period of time, and this is where True Blue really was a life saver for me because I rang the office and I said, this is the position that I found myself in, could you please help me? I've got quotes to be produced. I've got quotes that I need to realise. And it was Tom from the team who actually helped me out and straight away on the same day we scheduled the call.
We had a call for about 3 hours. He took me through the entire system and functionality.So that's the following day, I was actually able by myself to produce a good level of quotation with all the products listed and understanding the system better. So what I really appreciated about that was the fact that not only the team acted really fast to help me out.
It was very crucial that I do it fast, and I learn fast because of the continuity of the business, but also they took extra care and knowing that this is their account and to help us out to ensure that our business continues, to grow. So I was very, very grateful for that they stepped in, and they stepped up to the mark. Honestly, I just could not say thanks enough to Tom for helping me out in a difficult time.
Q. Describe what TruBlue means to you in a few words
Kora: Solution, innovation, and reliability.And those three words are probably the best way I would describe dealing with TruBlue using the system and with where my business is going. Also, I would add the relevance to the local market.
Q. Tell us about your diary of a bathroom designer blog
Kora: The diary of the Bathroom Designer, came about really from a thought one day of sharing the experience that I'm having here in the showroom.
So obviously I'm in charge of my sales and designs and we have a variety of people coming through the door and some of those experiences are out of this world.
I would say I'm finding myself in the role of, marriage counsellor, friend, you know, someone that they can perhaps offload to. So I decided to share that.
To be fair, since I started, which is probably about two months now, I've been receiving some amazing feedback, which that surprised me actually. I didn't think it was going to be this popular. My aim was to share my stories with a bit of humour. And I think that has been received really, really well because, random people email me and say, we love reading your entries and they so funny and they make us laugh halfway through the day, which is great.
I think that's, that's what we need. All of us need a little bit of humour at the moment. One of the ladies that messaged me on LinkedIn off the back of my last entry, she said, do you know what?It's so refreshing to find someone writing about things in a funny way. Because all the posts on LinkedIn at the moment are so doom and gloom and they so serious. So it's really refreshing to find a bit of sense of humor in someone's writing.
So it is just a hobby, I suppose, but with the view that perhaps my views and my experience will help others as well. I think we find ourselves probably a lot of bathroom designers would relate into what I go through, but not necessarily feel brave enough to share it.
I think by putting it out there, I'm ensuring that everybody is doing well and they can share their views as well, uh, which has been brilliant. So I really enjoy writing those entries.
